During the Bob Phillips Festival, The Mix and Friends raised more than $12,000 for the Dinah Weable Breast Cancer Survivors Foundation, raising money for breast cancer awareness and helping with mammograms and radiology needs for underinsured men and women in Ellis County.

After discussing ideas to raise money, Charlotte McKibbin with Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home offered her parking lots for cars to park during the Bob Phillips Festival.

Volunteers who braved the rain and helped raise money Oct. 29 were Melissa Ballard, Cindy Smith, Rick Davis, Ron Tarrant, Darla Chester, Kris Helms, Jodi Helms, Nick Holder, Chelsea Holder, Curtiss Vanderbilt, Bonney Ramsey, Sherri Green, Ronny Langford, Charlotte McKibbin, Charlene Hollingsworth and Michele Hampton.

“We didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits,” Cindy Smith said. “We all have relatives who have been through breast cancer or are survivors ourselves, so this cause is very dear to us.”

“We are so proud to be part of this amazing group of strong women that supports such a special cause,” Melissa Ballard said.

Along with the funds raised through the parking lot, other businesses and individuals donated additional funds, including The Mix, Eubank Florist, Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home, USA Roofing, Midlothian Funeral Home and Kevin Chester. Chester matched the $4,000 that was raised from parking cars.

“We could not have been successful without these individuals and businesses,” Smith said.

They presented the check to Dinah and Ray Weable on Dec. 14 at The Mix.

Since the start of the foundation, they have paid for about 1,600 mammograms for people in Ellis County. Dinah Weable said their goal is to pay for 100 mammograms a year.

“I am so thankful for the people in the community who are willing to support us,” Weable said. “I never imagined we would have reached so many people.”
