Have you ever wanted to learn how to play pickleball, create unique fall crafts or get certified for CPR?
Now’s your chance!
Lighthouse for Learning, a branch of Waxahachie ISD, offers more than 30 classes geared toward adults to help them continue their education or pick up a new skill or hobby. Classes include pickleball, tennis, photo editing, Spanish, crafts, calligraphy, self-defense, CPR certification, social media, gardening and more.
“Basically, Lighthouse for Learning is just a way to provide what we do to the rest of the community,” community outreach coordinator Sandy King said.
She said the goal of the program is to connect the community with WISD while also providing them with a skill or hobby and giving them the opportunity to become “lifelong learners.”
One of their most popular classes is pickleball. King said they offered it for the first-time last year, and within a week, the class was full. They added three more sections.
Lighthouse for Learning offers one class for youth – youth fashion sewing. It started after King saw a post advertising sewing classes to youth girls, so they could learn the “lost art of sewing.” King said the class has four sessions where they learn to make a whole outfit. At the end of the class, they have a fashion show to show off the creations they made.
Parents can bring their children to the Building Kindness with Build-A-Bears class. They’ll create their own Build-A-Bear together while learning about being kind to others.
King said they partnered with Hachie House and have added several new arts and crafts classes this semester including pumpkin and snowmen crafts.
Their fall semester begins in October and ends in November. All classes typically take place Monday and Thursday evenings. Each class is led by a Waxahachie expert in the topic. To find the full list of classes or to register, visit www.wisd.org/Page/1144.
