Breelyn Wright of Waxahachie offers her customers a new style of jewelry – permanent jewelry – with her popup shop, Daisymade.
Unlike other jewelry, permanent jewelry does not have a clasp for removal. The ends are micro welded together, creating a forever bracelet, necklace or anklet.
“That’s one of my goals with Daisymade was to get rid of the clutter,” she said. “I wanted to make something that was beautiful and sustainable and not just contributing to the junk. The fact that we wear it all the time, and you don’t take it on and off. I love the idea that it’s something you can hold on to for years to come.”
Wright said permanent jewelry can be even more special when you get it done with someone or if you add a birthstone or an initial to the jewelry.
Customers first pick out the chain style they want for their piece, and Wright said they have about 20 different styles to choose from. Next, they can choose to add a charm, then Wright custom measures the jewelry to fit the customer. After placing on safety glasses, Wright micro welds the piece together, making it a permanent piece of jewelry.
While Wright only recently started offering permanent jewelry, in August 2022, she has been making jewelry with rocks and minerals since 2014.
“I always knew I wanted to do something art related, so I was looking for a way to creatively express myself,” Wright said. “I loved jewelry, and I also loved rocks and minerals.”
She’d take rocks or minerals she found on excavations and wire wrap them to create rings, earrings and other jewelry. She started selling them on Etsy and at popup markets. Wright took a metalsmith class to learn more about the tools and better understand the art.
Wright enjoys creating jewelry because it is a way people express themselves.
“It’s so personal,” Wright said. “When you see somebody who puts jewelry on themselves, they picked that jewelry for a reason. I like the idea that you can express yourself to the outside world with what you think is beautiful. I think jewelry is special in that way that it’s something unique to you.”
When she began teaching art at Waxahachie High School, she took a break from her jewelry business. After stepping back to become a full-time stay at home mom with her two children, she decided to step back into the creative side of her life.
Wright first saw permanent jewelry in New York City, and she loved the concept. When she returned home, she began teaching herself how to do it by watching videos, practicing on herself and on her husband until she perfected it, then she began doing popups at different markets in the area.
She continues to do popups on Saturdays and said her schedule can be found online or on social media.
Wright said she has loved doing permanent jewelry because it allows her to step into a special moment in someone’s life.
“My favorite part (of Daisymade) is when people come together whether it’s couples or mothers and daughters or sisters or best friends, just being a part of their experience is really cool,” Wright said.
