Want a smoked turkey for Thanksgiving but don’t have the time to do it? A firefighter can smoke your turkey for you. The Waxahachie Firefighters Association is smoking turkeys this year in its second annual turkey smoke.

Turkeys, donated by Walmart, are $60 each and range from 12-15 pounds. Orders must be placed via text or call by Nov. 15, and slots are limited.

The association will get the turkeys and begin thawing them out Nov. 16, and firefighters will smoke the turkeys over the span of two days.

After the turkeys are smoked, they are each placed in an aluminum pan and thickly plastic-wrapped and placed in a refrigerated 18-wheeler truck donated by Tow Pro Wrecker Service. The firefighters place reheating instructions within the wrap.

The smoked turkeys will be available for pickup at Station 2, located at 1601 Cleaver St., on Nov. 21 and 22; payments will be made upon pickup.

All proceeds benefit the association’s general fund, some of which the firefighters use to give back to the community in a variety of ways, association vice president Ed Konick said.

To order a turkey, call or text Kameran Miller at 817-271-5929 or Julio Hernandez at 469-285-6089. Originally published November 11, 2022 - https://www.waxahachiesun.com/news/local/order-a-smoked-turkey-from-the-waxahachie-firefighters-association/article_19b799ea-6245-11ed-a21e-9be5ae212bc0.html
