A night of fine dining, dancing and jazz music is what attendees at the 17th annual Jazz Café will experience from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Midlothian Conference Center.

The event has served as a fundraiser for the Waxahachie ISD band program for many years, and director Rich Armstrong said this year is no exception.

“It goes to help all of our kids in WISD band program, and it gives our kids the opportunity to play music from that era,” Armstrong said. “They can get a sense of what it was like to be in a big band and play a night where there’s people dancing.”

The WHS Jazz Orchestra will perform music from the big band era like Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. Guest artists, who will be previous students including James Davis on the trumpet and vocalist Micaiah Armstrong, will join the orchestra. Throughout the evening, guests will be invited to dance.

Guests will also be able to participate in a silent auction with items like sports memorabilia, movie posters, airline tickets, a variety of baskets and more.

Armstrong said it is a semi-formal evening, and they will be dressed in tuxedos.

“It would be a great thing to dress up and take your wife to,” Armstrong said. “There’s not a lot of experiences in Waxahachie like this one … it’s exquisite.”

Armstrong said they work hard to make the night professional by preparing great music, decorations and food.

Tickets are $50 a person or $360 for a table of 8 with all proceeds going to the band and are on sale now until Jan. 27.
