The Waxahachie Symphony Association’s recent Christmas Concert helped put those in attendance into the holiday spirit.

On Friday, Dec. 2, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra performed at the Waxahachie High School Performing Arts Center, with selections from “The Nutcracker,” traditional Christmas carols, contemporary pieces from “How the Grinch stole Christmas” and the Rockettes’ “Parade of Wooden Soldiers.”

“It’s a wonderful chance for them to sit back, relax and actually enjoy the season away from the hustle and bustle of shopping and decorating and baking,” said Melissa Chapman, Waxahachie Symphony Association president. “It’s hard to get away from all the noise and just relax and enjoy what Christmas is all about, which is being together with family and friends. There’s no better way to do that than with beautiful music.” Santa attended the concert and was available for photos and for children to drop off their wish lists.

The WHS Performing Arts Center seats 800 people, with Chapman reporting the concert sold out ahead of time. Because a part of the association’s mission is “to expose children to symphonic music,” all children 18 years and younger are admitted free. For the Christmas Concert, Chapman said they expected more than 100 children in attendance.

The association donated 170 tickets to Waxahachie ISD for staff and students, and Daymark Living also brought residents to the concert, Chapman said.

“We love the opportunity to bring first class entertainment here to Waxahachie that’s affordable for families,” she said.
