During its Jan. 17 meeting, Waxahachie City Council unanimously approved street and parking closures in February for filming of the upcoming TV show, “Bass Reeves,” in downtown Waxahachie.

“Bass Reeves” will star David Oyelowo and tell the story of the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River, according to IMDb. The show is a “Yellowstone” project and will be a spin-off series of “1883,” which is a prequel to “Yellowstone.”

The show will film at the Rogers Hotel and the Ellis County Courthouse on Feb. 13-14 with preparations beginning Feb. 8. Parking spaces in the inner ring of the courthouse square will be closed, and the 100 blocks of S. Rogers and W. Main streets will be closed.

The city’s communications and marketing director, Amy Borders, explained how the location manager has been in contact with the downtown businesses and will make compensations and additional logistic changes if needed.

“I don’t think there’s a bigger show than ‘Yellowstone’ right now and that promotional power that comes along with the show is huge,” Borders said. “I think that the benefits do far outweigh the temporary inconveniences.”

“1883” filmed scenes in Fort Worth in 2021. Borders contacted the Fort Worth Visitors Bureau, and said they told her it brought a lot of publicity to their town and to their website.
