The Ellis County Commissioners Court approved a service order with Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc. for design services of the renovation and expansion of the Ellis County Courts and Administration Building, located at 109 S. Jackson St.
“At the completion of the initial design, HOK will return to the court to provide a complete walkthrough and request approval to move to the final design,” purchasing agent E.J. Harbin said.
Curt Parde, director of architecture with HOK, explained to the court that the project will include a jury assembly space for about 250 seats, district attorney space expansion, a new parking structure, conversion of a multipurpose room to a shared courtroom, flex space additions on the end of corridors, behavioral health support space, and renovations within the district clerk and county clerk offices.
Commissioner Paul Perry expressed his support for the project, noting that a new parking structure is needed.
