During its Sept. 13 meeting, the Ellis County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a contract with BerryDunn for implementation services of new Motorola Solutions software that will not exceed $529,152.
BerryDunn will work with Motorola during the two-year implementation of new computer-aided dispatch, records management and jail management systems for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
Commissioners had expressed concerns and asked for more details and information at a previous meeting. Since then, Terry Bohan, senior consultant with BerryDunn, reached out to several of them about the project and what his company’s role will be in it. He also provided the court with sample documents that will be completed throughout the project.
Bohan said the project is one of four BerryDunn is doing in the Dallas metroplex area. He said they have assisted with implementation services throughout the United States, recently concentrating on Texas.
County Judge Todd Little explained how the district attorney’s office, with Bohan’s help, had determined specific criteria and measurements Motorola must meet before any payments.
“Terry and BerryDunn will be directly involved with making sure that the guidelines based on the contract are met before we issue payment,” Little said.
Bohan compared BerryDunn’s role to that of building a house, saying most people would not have their contractor also be their “quality control and building inspector, with no oversight at all.”
“That’s one of the biggest responsibilities of the engagement is to represent the county and look out for your best interests,” Bohan said.
The commissioners expressed their gratitude toward Bohan for working with them and providing more information and clarity.
Commissioner Lane Grayson asked Bohan to continue doing so as the project moves forward.
