The Waxahachie City Council unanimously approved extending its contract with the Waxahachie Arts Council during its meeting Monday, Sept. 19.

According to the contract, the city of Waxahachie agrees to pay 25% of the available hotel-motel tax revenues to the council to provide “encouragement, promotion, improvement and application of the arts” in the city.

“We are here to thank you for your continued support for the arts and historical community in this wonderful community,” council president Elizabeth Tull said. “We seek a continuance of this relationship that is beneficial to both the community and this council. A vibrant community includes the arts and treasures of our historic past by embracing the exciting and productive future.”

The arts council includes the Ellis County Art Association, the Waxahachie Symphony Association, the Crossroads Texas Film Festival, the Chautauqua Preservation Society, the Waxahachie Community Theater, Bethlehem Revisited, and Historic Waxahachie Inc.
