In a unanimous vote, the Ellis County Commissioners Court approved a tax abatement agreement with the owners of about 54 acres, Old Fort Worth Road, LLC, on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
The tax abatement agreement will be an eight-year agreement with Home Zone Furniture, a family-owned furniture company. The company will pay 55% in the first four years and 45% in the last four years. The improvements on the property are an estimated $55 million.
President of Midlothian Economic Development, Kyle Kinateder, told the court the abatement is only applicable to the overall tax rate with the county and not the lateral road tax. He went on to explain how the company will have to hit a series of job requirements to receive the tax abatement. It will also have to meet a specific taxable value starting at $47.3 million.
“This particular facility is going in a new area, one that we have not seen development in,” Kinateder said. “It’s a property that is located entirely in the city of Midlothian city limits, so there are no impacts on the county infrastructure.”
Home Zone will bring 100 to 150 open job positions to Midlothian for its new national headquarters and distribution center.
